The Month in Instagram

Here it is…March as told through my Instagrams. It’s all about those little slices of “what was that picture all about”! I obviously made cupcakes, ate maple bacon doughnuts, found strange records, played with the kids, celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday, drew with chalk, played in the garden, and ate cake. Enjoy…

**ATTENTION: MORE PERSONAL POST THAN WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY/DESIGN POST** (but please, read on!)
I know, the typical season of reflection is right around the end/beginning of a year, but for some reason I have been reflecting on a lot of things lately. This has the potential of being a lengthy post, but I’ll keep it short.

I’m very blessed. 2012 is going to be a record-breaking year for rojo foto//design. Not only are all of my weddings local (something I have been working on for a long time, particularly because of my “work” travel schedule), but this year we are transitioning into a husband/wife photography team! How awesome is that!?! I am very excited to have my wife shooting with me this year (and beyond)! Great things are also in store for TEAMHorizons (the magazine that I have the awesome priviledge of working with), I have some great design clients that I am working with, and it is 80 degrees outside! PLUS…my wife just emailed me about a little dog that she found on the local animal shelter’s website!!

Vamp into another reflection.

This morning I was reading Genesis 50 and amid that whole story of Joseph getting betrayed by his brothers, then ultimately ruling over his whole family. After his father (Jacob) dies, Joseph’s brothers come to see him and throw themselves down at his feet, declaring they will be his slaves. They thought that because their father had dies, Joseph would now kill them as revenge for being sold into slavery. (You’ll have to read the rest of the story to find out how he went from slave to ruler…) This is what Joseph tells his brothers in verse 20: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

Just reflecting on that today was a real blessing. Reading an example where God worked through strange circumstances, hard times, and turning what seemed “bad” into “good” is really hope-bringing. Maybe you need to go read it, and reflect!?

So, for further reflection on how rojo foto//design has been blessed over the past year, maybe I will curate a post that looks back over 2011. But until then, we can play the “where’s my reflection” game with the photos above (good thing I didn’t get run over on that last image).

Deadline Day

The day has finally arrived. Volume 7 Issue 1 of TEAMHorizons will be uploaded to the printer in a few hours, and I have created a little mashup/collage of some of the spreads, illustrations, images from the issue! I love this job, but sometimes the stress of running down to the last minute is really taxing. This issue has been a tough one. I feel like I have faced a lot of creativity walls with this issue, so I am going to be glad to see it in print. It’ll be my trophy, I guess.

Baby Nursery Posters – New York Inspired

I just saw a post that some friends of mine are having another baby and it reminded me of this poster I did for their second child’s nursery. They love New York and wanted to have some of their favorite stops in the city put together on two posters. This is also a color off of the baby’s crib set. Just thought I would share another previous project…
